For an unemployment like me, every day just the same. So in Monday Lisa and I went to Coban Rondo which means waterfall widow. Before I tell you my experience there I want to tell you about the legend Coban Rondo. The story behind the waterfall Coban Rondo, began with a bride and groom who just got married.
The bride named Dewi Anjarwati was from Mount Kawi, and groom named Raden Baron Kusumo was from Mount Anjasmoro.
Once they hit the age of marriage 36 days or called Selapan (Java language). Dewi Anjarwati suggesed her husband to visit Mount Anjasmoro, which is the place of her husband. But Dewi Anjarwati's parents prohibit the bride and groom to go, because they were new age of marriage which was 36 days (Selapan). But both insisted on going and risk anything for the trip.
When she was in the way they were surprised by the presence Lelono Joko, who has unclear origin. Joko Lelono seemed enamored with the beauty of Dewi Anjarwati, and tried to take her from Raden Baron Kusumo. The Fighting between Joko Lelono with Raden Baron Kusumo were unavoidable. To the Punokawan (helper) that accompany the bride and groom , Raden Baron Kusumo ordered them to hide Goddess Anjarwati in Coban (waterfall).
The fighting between Raden Baron Kusumo with Joko Lelono lasted cried and they both died. Consequently Dewi Anjarwati became widow (rondo = the Java language). Since then Coban or waterfalls that serve as hiding place of Dewi Anjarwati known as Coban Rondo (waterfall widow).
It is said that big rock under the waterfall was where the princess sat contemplating her fate.
So that's the story, sad isn't it? For me it's a little creepy too, what if until now the Dewi Anjarwati is still waiting for her husband under the waterfall? hmmm ... anyway, I went to Coban rondo with Lisa on a motorcycle. For those who do not have a private vehicle, do not worry Coban rondo can be attained by public transportation. first, you need to go by Angkot to the terminal Landungsari for 2,500 rupiah, and then continue the trip by bus Puspa Indah to Pujon, I do not know for sure how much, maybe range of 5,000-10,000 rupiah. Keep your eyes on the road because when there's cow statue you need to stop, then continue your journey by the Ojek (a motorcycle taxi) for 10,000 rupiah. The admission for Coban Rondo is 10,000 rupiah for foreigner and 2,000 for the cost of a motorcycle.
Travel to Coban Rondo is through hilly areas, very beautiful scenery. After getting to the falls, we were greeted by monkeys. Those monkeys are tame and they didn't bother us. The tourists can give them food like bananas and peanuts. The monkeys were soooo cute.
Coban rondo waterfall has height of approximately 84 meters and is a spring for Cemoro Dudo are. I want to shower under the waterfall, but despite of the water was very cold, it is not allowed to shower under the waterfall, perhaps because of the legend that the place was sacred. Well, if you visit this beautiful place, please do not forget to keep it clean.
